In AVID, my class has recently written an argumentative essay. The purpose of this essay was to help prepare us for a District Writing Test that was coming up. From writing this essay, I learned how to properly use a quote in a sentence. I also learned about a counter argument and where to put it in the essay. I think this essay came out pretty well because I spent a lot of time proofreading the rough draft. To improve the essay, I can reread it and have someone else proofread it, so they can find mistakes that I probably did not catch.
What I have learned in AVID so far are things that helped me a lot in my other classes. Some things like taking notes. To be more specific, cornell notes. I also learned how to do Tutorial Request Forms (TRF's) and tutorials. In AVID, I also learned about what to do in public speaking and we have also practiced speaking in front of an audience (the class). How to ask good questions is another skill I have learned. Out of all these things I have learned, I think the public speaking practices are the most difficult. This is because I am not good at speaking in front of a crowd. I am hoping that all the things I learn in the future will help me improve in my classes. I am also hoping that those skills I learn won't be too difficult.
